LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — With the start of the school year just weeks away, families gathered in west Louisville Saturday for free health screenings and school supplies.
The sixth annual Men of Quality Health Fair and Backpack Giveaway was held on West Chestnut Street. The event was organized by the Theta Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Families could get health screenings, pick up backpacks and school supplies, grab fresh produce and visit vendors offering wellness services. There were also performances from local cheer and dance teams, bouncy houses and a classic car show.
One participant, Langston Gaither, said he was glad the event was helping making sure families have access to resources they may not otherwise be able to afford.
"It's important to build up the community that is always supporting us," Gaither said. "In west Louisville, we know there is a fight when it comes to supplies and resources, so we want to be able to give that out for free."
