The Jefferson County Public School board's recent proposal to eliminate nearly $144 million they overspent is a painful but necessary course correction. Sacrifices will be necessary. That's the inevitable result of a school board failing to provide proper budget oversight for years.
To the JCPS board, don't even think about raising property taxes to fix the mess created by your own poor oversight. Our community, especially senior citizens on fixed incomes, should not be forced to foot the bill for leadership that failed to do its duty.
Here's what our viewers had to say:
"I thank you so much for speaking out on that. They have overspent and overspent. And I'm an old lady and I'm tired of bailing them out."
"Anytime you got school boards anywhere that don't want to do audits on a regular basis, something is wrong with them."
"You hit the nail on the head again. And they hit all of us with more taxes and more taxes, and seniors just don't get that much. We are struggling to pay the taxes we're already paying."
"Mr. Lamb was correct. Do not put this on the citizens of Jefferson County to pay for the mistakes of few."
"If they even think about touching our taxpayer dollars, you will see a mass exodus like you've never seen before from Jefferson County."
