I know the community is disappointed that Thunder Over Louisville had to be cancelled this year, but we still have the most iconic time of year ahead of us here in the Louisville area.

Although Thunder is the biggest event, it’s still only one of over 70 The Kentucky Derby Festival offers including one of the country's largest half-marathons, the Pegasus Parade, an old-fashioned steamboat race and balloon glows.

You can still attend most of the 70 events for the price of one $7 Pegasus Pin, and that pin is the best way you can support this great festival, especially this year, which is historically challenging.

The Kentucky Derby Festival requires year-round planning and great sponsors who support it financially. Yes, it’s usually an awesome two or three-week party for all of us, but it’s much more than that to our community.

Did you know that each year the Festival generates more than $200 million in economic impact? Yup. For every $1 spent producing events, the Festival generates $25 back into the community.

Don’t take this outstanding festival for granted. We all need to support it. Even without Thunder, please buy your $7 Derby Festival pin and enjoy the remaining events. $7 is not much, but each one says “We support the Kentucky Derby Festival and what it does for our community.”
