Keegan Peterson died last summer during an outing at Nolin Lake with a friend’s family.

After the drowning death of their 2-year-old son, a Hardin County family is making it a mission to try to prevent others from going through the same tragedy.

Anchorage-Middletown Fire and EMS teamed up with the U.S. Coast Guard for an event on Thursday. 

Nationally, there are around 4,000 drowning incidents each year, averaging up to 11 drowning deaths per day. 

The district is partnering with Captain's Quarters and other local marinas to launch a free life jacket program for those who may not have access to them or may not be able to afford them.
