Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to order freedom for the enslaved people of the state — two months after the Confederacy had surrendered in the Civil War.

Dozens of local vendors were set up at the Belvedere at the free event that featured musical performances, discussions, networking and food. 

Many of events are free and open to the public.

The festival will feature more than 70 Black-owned businesses, musical performances, panel discussions, networking events and food vendors.

With all the fun, the message was clear. Speakers included those talking about the history of Black culture and its importance now with the key words of respect, trust and solidarity.
