Lofton's Law increases the penalty for hazing that results in injury or death to a felony.

Students told investigators Lofton had 18 shots of Wild Turkey bourbon within 45 minutes as part of a tradition before serenading sororities. 

Thomas "Lofton" Hazelwood died of alcohol toxicity, according to Fayette County Coroner Gray Ginn.

The move comes after the death of a student Monday at a fraternity house.

The University of Kentucky fraternity where a freshman was found unresponsive earlier this week is facing more than a dozen liquor law violations.
