Sept. 2 marks the anniversary of Japan's surrender to Allied Forces in 1945.

Currently, a plaque and other items acknowledge the officers effort to desegregate the U.S. military. The museum is raising funds to add bronze statues, one dressed as an officer and another as a pilot.

The flights over Louisville came a little more than a month after the 75-year anniversary of the V-J Day, when President Harry Truman declared victory over Japan.
