The death of a 32-year-old woman in Fayette County County due to the winter weather brought the total number to 12.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said the woman made a frantic call to 911 about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13. 

Two Louisville nursing homes will permanently shut down after state surveys found "substantial noncompliance with Medicare rules and regulations," including rodents, resident neglect and failure to report allegations of abuse.

There are potential life and death checks being made in some neighborhoods.

Frigid weather increases the risks of hypothermia, frostbite, heart attacks and strokes. 

Snow and dangerously low temperatures are forecasted for Thursday into Christmas weekend. 

Doctors are asking people to stay in a warm place as temperatures are expected to drop over the next two days.

Officials say some residents have been afraid to leave their homes, despite the cold. 

Police said that when a deputy tried to take the suspect into custody, he "fled and jumped into the White River."
