From California and Missouri to right here in Kentucky, a lot of historic monuments have been removed.
Crews have removed the statue of Jefferson Davis from its base in the Kentucky Capitol Rotunda.
As the Jefferson Davis statue in the Kentucky state Capitol was removed Saturday morning, artifacts were found inside its base.
Gov. Andy Beshear called the statue a divisive symbol, saying it has to go.
“I believe that the statue of Jefferson Davis should not be in the Rotunda,” Beshear told reporters.
A group of Kentucky lawmakers wants to remove days honoring Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis from the state's official list of public holidays.
He also says he doesn't want to sweep history under the rug and opposes removing Hamilton from ten dollar bill.
The Historic Properties Advisory Commission agreed to accept written comments until July 29 and then meet again on August 5.
