Louisville Fire Department has seven stations that are more than 100 years old, and another 11 stations that are more than five decades old. 

Church bells signaled the call to Mass on Sunday, but it was also a call for the community to honor Louisville's first responders past and present.

Leaders made their case to Metro Council Wednesday evening for new recruits, equipment and pay raises. 

The presentation to first responders will be held on Tuesday morning at the Louisville Fire Headquarters.

The 310 @ Nulu apartment building was cordoned off with red tape Tuesday, with no one allowed to go inside.

While the building code requires sprinkler systems in the occupied areas of the building like a kitchen or living room, sprinklers aren't required in areas in between apartments or in the ceilings or floors.

Friends and loved ones say both men were huge family men and very proud fathers.

Brian O'Neill is a former U.S. Marine that has been with the Louisville Division of Fire since 2001. 

Frederick was appointed as the 20th department chief in July 1999.

Many of the firefighters' families were present for the pinning ceremony at Louisville Slugger Field.
