The proposed one-year moratorium on new data center construction moved one step closer to becoming official Monday after the New Albany City Council advanced the measure to a final vote.

The temporary pause would give the New Albany City Council and the city’s planning and zoning department time to review whether current zoning regulations adequately address future data center proposals.
With no new apartments allowed within city limits, developers are instead building in the surrounding areas of Floyd County. And not everyone living in those rural parts is on board with the boom.
