Hudson Card tied his career high with three touchdown passes and scored on a 10-yard run with 2:39 left Saturday, giving the Purdue Boilermakers a 35-31 victory over Indiana and their straight win in the Old Oaken Bucket series.
But the Boilermakers are hot. They’ve won three straight and six of eight, beaten Illinois and Indiana to keep both trophies, posted back-to-back eight-win seasons for the first time since 1997-98 and can win their first league crown since 2000.
For the first time since 1919, Indiana and Purdue will not play a football game this season.
The rivals had played every season since 1920.
The Hoosiers did not practice Tuesday because of the novel corona virus and have paused all team activities.
The Indiana Hoosiers (6-1) are looking to wrap up a magical 2020 season with a win over Purdue in Bloomington Saturday.
Indiana has done an excellent job of winning the games it was supposed to win while losing the games it was likely to lose. It won’t be easy completing that pattern at Purdue next Saturday, but it will matter.
