LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — It’s a sad day for Racing Louisville Football Club. First-year coach Bev Yanez announced via social media that she will miss Sunday’s game at the North Carolina Courage after suffering a miscarriage.

”My family and I are heartbroken with the miscarriage of our baby boy,” the 35-year-old coach said in a statement. “We are grieving and healing as a family at this time. It is an indescribable hurt that, through sharing my story, I am realizing many have gone through. I’m so grateful for the support around us as we heal our hearts.”

Yanez took over as coach before the 2024 season after serving for one season as an assistant here and three years assisting at other NWSL locations. She was announced as coach just a few weeks after the birth of her second daughter last November.

She and her husband, former Columbus Crew midfielder Othaniel Yáñez, have two children.

The club responded on social media, saying, “We’re sending love to Bev and her family.”

It announced that assistant Carmelina Moscato will lead the club as acting head coach in today’s match at North Carolina. Assistant coach Mitch Sowerby and goalkeepers coach Sergio Gonzalez Will assist her.

Racing and North Carolina kick off at 4:30 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., in a game broadcast by CBS Sports Network.
