LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- For a second straight week, the Indiana football team has achieved a program high in the Associated Press Top 25, climbing to No. 2 in the nation behind top-ranked Ohio State.

Louisville, which scored the upset of then-No. 2 Miami that allowed Indiana to rise in the poll, jumped into the rankings for the first time this season at No. 19.

The Cardinals upset Miami 24-21 Friday night on ESPN, one week after suffering an upset loss themselves, at home to Virginia.

Louisville's ranking marks their first since the final poll of the 2024 season, where they finished ranked No. 22 after a Sun Bowl victory over Washington.

Indiana rose after a workmanlike 38-13 win over Michigan State in which quarterback Fernando Mendoza completed 24 of 28 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns.

"We are just trying to stay focused on the job at hand," Mendoza said after the win. "Until the College Football Playoff rankings come out, it doesn't really matter. So we're trying to not pay a lot of attention."

Elsewhere in the Top 25, it was a tumultuous week. Eight ranked teams lost, including four in the Top 10.

Georgia jumped back into the Top 5 after beating Ole Miss, and Georgia Tech rose five spots to No. 7 nationally, the highest-ranked team in the ACC. Miami, after its loss to Louisville, fell seven spots to No. 9. Vanderbilt jumped seven spots to No. 10.

Despite escaping an upset bid by Washington State with a safety, Virginia rose two spots to No. 16.

Texas, after slipping out of Lexington with a 16-13 overtime win over Kentucky, fell one spot to No. 22.
