LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – For the first 15 minutes Saturday night, Indiana looked like it might be in for a long, hot evening in the Caribbean.

By the end, the Hoosiers were the ones making it uncomfortable for Mega Superbet.

IU wiped out a 23-point first-half deficit and stormed to a 93-71 victory over the Serbian professional club in the second game of its exhibition tour in Puerto Rico at Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan.

Mega led 44–21 in the second quarter before Indiana closed on a 72–27 avalanche, holding the visitors to just 17.2% shooting in the second half (5-for-29) and forcing 24 turnovers.

“I thought their physicality really bothered us that first 10 minutes, but I really liked the way the guys responded,” first-year Indiana coach Darian DeVries said. “OK, they got punched in the mouth a little bit. Down 24, there's a lot of different ways that game can go from that point, and I just like the way they kind of pulled together, dug in and fought harder, and didn’t try to do it on their own but collectively, defensively. I thought as the game went on. … So I liked it for us.”

The turnaround began late in the first half, when IU cut into the margin before the break. Out of the locker room, the Hoosiers ratcheted up their defensive intensity, stringing together eight kills” — three consecutive defensive stops — in the second half alone.

Transfer guard Lamar Wilkerson lit the fuse offensively, scoring 13 of his game-high 18 points after halftime. He finished 7-for-11 from the field, 4-for-7 from three.

“Lamar can change a game in two or three possessions,” DeVries said. “I have ultimate faith in him making shots.”

Indiana got balance behind him. Sam Alexis scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds off the bench. Tayton Conerway added 12 points and five assists. Tucker DeVries filled the stat sheet with 10 points, six boards, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Freshman Trent Sisley chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Hoosiers dominated hustle stats: +12 in points in the paint, +12 in bench scoring, +12 in points off turnovers. They shot 44.7 percent from the floor, 34.5 percent from three and 78.9 percent at the foul line.

For DeVries, the value was in the process — not just the comeback, but how it happened.

“As a new team with a bunch of new guys, you have to learn how to win together and overcome adversity,” he said. “This was a great, great opportunity to do that.”

Indiana closes its tour with a rematch against Mega Superbet at 11 a.m. ET Monday at Coliseo Guillermo Angulo.
