LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville City FC completed a rare nine-point week with a 4-2 victory over Birmingham Legion FC at Lynn Family Stadium Saturday night.
Phillip Goodrum became the sixth player in club history to register a hat trick as LouCity won its third match in seven days.
“Obviously didn’t start the exact way we wanted, but ultimately I was really, really happy for the result,” Louisville City FC coach Danny Cruz said. “It’s a nine-point week. Tired legs — I think you could see that at the end of the game. We wanted a little bit more intensity from that, but at the same time, I’m proud of the group."
After LouCity conceded an early goal, they found an equalizer in the 29th minute. Ray Serrano delivered a service to Amadou Dia, who scored to even the match at 101.
A minute later, Taylor Davila placed a pass to Phillip Goodrum for a goal to give LouCity the lead for good.
Davila then fond Goodrum again late in the first half for a 3-1 lead.
Goodrum scored his third goal on an assist from Davila.
“Every since I played against LouCity, I knew this is the place I wanted to be,” Goodrum said. “This is the premier club in the USL. For me, this is my big Champions League club of my career. To wear No. 9 here and be the guy to put the ball in the back of the net, it means a lot.”
Louisville City FC is 9-0-4 and atop the USL Championship standings.
