LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville City FC lost 2-1 to Loudoun United FC in USL Cup play Saturday night.
Earlier this season, LouCity beat Loudoun in the USL Championship regular season and U.S. Open Cup. But Loudoun returned the favor in the USL Jägermeister Cup in the group stage.
Abdellatif Aboukoura scored in the 14th minute for Loudoun. But Adrien Perez answered for LouCity on an assist from Taylor Davila in the 20th minute.
After the teams were tied at halftime, Zach Ryan gave the hosts the lead for good in the 59th minute on an assist from Kwame Awuah.
Key stat
Loudon United FC controlled 59.1% of the possession, but both teams finished with six shots on goal.
Coach's quote
“I thought we were really, really poor in a phase of the game we’re usually excellent in,” said LouCity coach Danny Cruz, “and that’s our ability to suffocate the opponent and to manage transition. We didn’t do that at all today. I thought we were poor with the ball in those moments. It’s ironic, because I think we created from an (expected goals) standpoint more than in any game this year, but we didn’t finish our chances."
