LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville City FC won at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg for the first time since 2018 thanks to a comeback win.
LouCity defeated the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-1 Saturday night. The club had been winless in five consecutive away trips against Tampa Bay.
Taylor Davila and Sam Gleadle scored second half goals for LouCity (4-0-2).
Key Moment
Trailing by a goal, Davila scored on an assist from Gleadle in the 69th minute to even the match.
Gleadle then scored in the 74th minute on an assist from Aiden McFadden.
“I’ve just been kind of waiting for a chance in my minutes,” Gleadle said. “I think we have a really good attacking group, so we’re working everyday, pushing each other… Just being confident in myself and my abilities and putting myself in the best spots possible and trusting my instinct and technique to get me over the line.”
Standout Stat
Not a stat, but a substitution. After Ollie Bassett scored Tampa Bay's only goal in the 58th minute, LouCity coach Danny Cruz turned to his bench, bringing in Gleadle, Ray Serrano and Evan Davila.
“We were good on the ball, switching the point of attack,” Davila said. “Really good quality, getting in behind (and) serving the ball. That was the game plan from the beginning.”
Coach's Quote
“Tonight is a night the group needs to feel proud of,” Cruz said. “You have two options when you go down a goal there: You can put your head down (and) feel sorry for yourself, or you can put your head up, your chest out, and look to go again, and I felt the guys did that.”
Next Game
LouCity returns home to host the Richmond Kickers in the USL Jägermeister Cup on April 26.
