LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — North Hardin softball topped Apollo 4-3 to advance to the second round of the KHSAA Softball state championship. The Trojans are making their first appearance at the state tournament since 2009.

North Hardin's offense was spearheaded by left fielder Tykeria Davis, who went 2-for-4 with one run, and third baseman Kaylee Johnston, who finished the afternoon 1-for-3 with one run and an RBI.

Star pitcher Brooklyn Carmickle did what she does best — strike people out. Carmickle went the distance, seven innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk.

"They always feel like they can win," said head coach Rocco Adessa. "When you get that confidence, it's because we've played a really tough schedule, some tough games, some tough losses, and some really good wins. They just have confidence that no matter what the score is, they are in it to til the last out, and you can't beat that."

North Hardin will play Highlands on June 6th at 10 a.m.
