LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Bethany Balcer faced the club she leads in all-time appearances. Jaelin Howell faced the club she served as a captain for as recently as two weeks ago.

And on a night of familiar faces taking on their now former clubs after the biggest trade of the NWSL transfer window, Racing Louisville Football Club is left to wonder what went wrong again thanks to a familiar issue.

Louisville blew leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Reign at Lynn Family Stadium on Saturday night. In a match that was delayed 90 minutes due to weather, the disappointment of Racing supporters was once again delayed until the final moments.

Following a Taylor Flint header to give the home side a 2-1 lead in the second half, Louisville's job was to hang on for an important three points in the NWSL playoff race. Then, Ji So-yun changed all that with a brilliant free kick.

That stunning set-piece goal defined a match full of scoring from different sets. Seattle stole the lead just six minutes after that free kick thanks to an own goal from Racing's Arin Wright off of a Reign corner.

Flint's goal was the second set-piece score for Louisville as well. Savannah DeMelo sent in two separate corners that found the back of the net, with the first one connecting with the head of Ary Borges to give their team an 1-0 lead.

Ellie Jean later tried to tackle a sprinting Jess Fishlock in the box, but was called for a foul. Sofia Huerta stepped to the penalty spot and slotted home an equalizer.

Louisville entered Saturday night in an NWSL playoff position. But this defeat, coupled with Bay FC getting a victory, means the California expansion club is now two points ahead of Racing as the two teams prepare to meet on Sept. 7. Star Louisville midfielder Savannah DeMelo will have to miss the match due to accumulating too many yellow cards this season.
