LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Aly Khalifa, a native of Egypt who was one of the better passing big men in the college game under Mark Pope at BYU last season, has committed to the University of Louisville, he told On3Sports on Thursday afternoon.

Khalifa will sit out the coming season to heal a knee injury. The 6-foot-11-inch native of Alexandria, Egypt, played his first two seasons at Charlotte before transferring to BYU, where he averaged 5.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, along with four assists per game, fourth-best on the team. He only played 19 minutes per game for BYU.

On3Sports reported Khalifa will redshirt this upcoming season.

He joins a transfer class that includes a couple of players who followed Pat Kelsey from Charleston — Reyne Smith and James Scott — as well as James Madison wing Terrence Edwards and Colorado wing J'Vonne Hadley.

Every scholarship player from Louisville's eight-win team under Kenny Payne last season has entered the transfer portal.
