LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Koren Johnson, a 6-foot-2-inch guard from Seattle who transferred to Louisville from Washington before last season, will enter the NCAA's transfer portal, according to a report from Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.
Johnson played in only two games before sustaining a shoulder injury that required surgery and forced him to miss the rest of the season.
Expected to play a backup role to point guard Chucky Hepburn, Johnson had four points, three assists and two turnovers in Louisville's season-opening win over Morehead State, then had just two points in 21 minutes in a loss to Tennessee.
His high point at Louisville likely came in the team's trip to the Bahamas last summer, when he had 15 points, nine assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots in a win over a Bahamian Select team.
After his shoulder injury, he posted on the social media platform X on Dec. 3: "Card Nation! I have decided to redshirt this year and get shoulder surgery to make sure I’m in the best shape possible for next year and my future! I appreciate all the love and support.”
He should have one season of eligibility remaining when he transfers. He averaged 11.1 points per game in the 2023-24 season at Washington.
He is the first player from the current Louisville men's team to opt for the portal. The Cardinals ended their season with an 89-75 loss to Creighton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
