LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville center Sananda Fru is entering the transfer portal, according to multiple reports, the first player from the Cardinals’ 2025-26 roster to have transfer plans become public.
Fru, a 6-foot-11 junior from Berlin, Germany, averaged 9.0 points and 6.1 rebounds last season while shooting an efficient 75.3% from the field. He emerged as one of Louisville’s most reliable interior finishers, providing size, touch around the rim and steady production in Pat Kelsey’s system.
His departure comes after a season in which he showed flashes of a higher ceiling.
Fru scored a career-high 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting against Boston College on Jan. 10 and recorded his first collegiate double-double in Louisville’s conference opener at California on Dec. 30, finishing with 13 points and a career-best 14 rebounds.
He posted a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, in Louisville’s NCAA Tournament win over South Florida, and had two points and six rebounds off the bench in the Cards’ second-round loss to Michigan State.
He started 29 of the Cardinals’ 35 games last season.
Before arriving at Louisville, Fru built an extensive professional résumé in Germany. He played four seasons for Löwen Braunschweig in the German BBL, starting 35 of 39 games during the 2024-25 season and competing in the FIBA Europe Cup.Â
At Louisville, Fru’s efficiency and physical presence made him a valuable piece in the frontcourt, particularly as the Cardinals worked to establish depth and identity inside. His decision to enter the portal adds to coach Pat Kelsey’s ongoing challenge to bolster the Cardinal frontcourt.
