LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeff Brohm just added another accolade to his fast-growing list of accomplishments at Louisville.
On Monday, Brohm was named The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week, presented by PNC Bank, after leading the Cardinals to a 24-21 upset over No. 2 Miami — the program's first-ever road win over a top-2 opponent.
The award, given by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc., honors coaches who not only deliver big wins on the field but also embody the values of scholarship, leadership, and integrity.
The victory Friday night in South Florida was Brohm's fourth career win over a top-five opponent.
Louisville's defense forced four interceptions. Its offense carved out just enough plays — including a fake field goal that led to an early touchdown. And the Cardinals held the Hurricanes to just 63 rushing yards, their lowest total this season.
The victory marked Louisville's fourth win over a Top 25 opponent under Brohm and snapped Miami's 10 game winning streak at home.
"Coach Brohm and the Cardinals showed tremendous grit and execution to pull off one of the biggest upsets so far this season," said Chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation Jim Terry. "To go into Miami and take down the nation's No. 2 team in such a dramatic fashion speaks volumes about his leadership and the belief he's built within that locker room."
Brohm becomes the second straight coach from the region to earn the honor, following Indiana's Curt Cignetti, who won last week after leading the Hoosiers to an impressive win over then-No. 3 Oregon.
Now in his third season at his alma mater, Brohm has led Louisville to a 24-9 record — and a No. 19 national ranking. His team is 5-1 with Boston College visiting L&N Stadium on Saturday night.
The Dodd Trophy recognition also reflects Brohm's emphasis off the field. Louisville posted a 989 Academic Progress Rate and 97 Graduation Success Rate last season — among the best in the ACC. And through the CardsCARE program, his players and staff partnered with nearly 200 nonprofit groups, including the Girl Scouts, American Red Cross, and Metro Parks' adaptive programs.
"Coach Brohm continues to exemplify everything The Dodd Trophy stands for," said Peach Bowl CEO Gary Stokan. "This win reflects the culture of accountability and confidence he's built at Louisville."
The full-season Dodd Trophy winner will be announced in December during the College Football Playoff semifinal week in Atlanta.
