LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Planes, drones, and fireworks will fill up the skies of Kentuckiana for Thunder Over Louisville on Saturday.

Wayne Hettinger joined WDRB Mornings on Tuesday to share what can be expected at Thunder this year, and what will make it stand out from the previous years.

Hettinger has produced Thunder for over 30 years, so this busy time of year is normal for him.

Right now, he said things are ahead of schedule and crews are keeping an eye on the weather and coming up with a plan to made adjustments if needed.

Hettinger wouldn't spoil much of the show, but the fireworks will start off sounding just like the Derby with the sound of trumpets, the call to the post, and the crash of the gates opening as red fireworks fill up the night skies.

Zambelli Fireworks is bringing in two new designers for the fireworks show, and Hettinger has been working with them since July.

"These guys have just absolutely blown my mind," Hettinger said. "If you've been to Thunder and think you know what the fireworks are going to look like, wait until you see it this year."

300-400 drones will also light up the skies and create images for fans to see, like an American flag.

"I've always said this is a very patriotic show and a chance for people to show their pride for our country," Hettinger said. "You take the fireworks, the drones, and the air show and it's a great opportunity for people to show their pride for their community."
