In this Crossroads hour-long special, host Dalton Godbey takes viewers behind the scenes of Thunder Over Louisville like never before — from the skies to the launch pad and everywhere in between.
The adventure kicks off in the cockpit with the Smoke On Aviation team, soaring over the Louisville skyline as they rehearse jaw-dropping aerial maneuvers for the air show. Corkscrews, flips, and wild twists set the tone for a high-flying journey.
Next, Dalton heads to Dayton, Ohio, to visit the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. There, he gets an up-close look at some of the aircraft that appear in Thunder’s air show and learns about their significance in military aviation history.
Then it’s off to New Castle, Pennsylvania, where the legendary Zambelli Fireworks team opens their doors for a rare look at how they plan one of the largest fireworks shows in the country. Dalton even helps prep some of the pyrotechnics and is treated to an exclusive preview show on their private property.
Back in Louisville, the story wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Kentucky Derby Museum, where Dalton explores how Thunder Over Louisville serves as the official kickoff to the Derby Festival. And finally, the journey ends with a classic Derby tradition: a meal at Wagner’s Pharmacy, just across the street from Churchill Downs.
This unforgettable special captures the heart-pounding excitement, historical depth, and deep-rooted tradition of Thunder Over Louisville like you’ve never seen before.
