LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local family is raising money for a new documentary paying tribute to a boy who lost his battle with a rare form of terminal brain cancer.
Kyler Buckner lost his 16-month battle with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma in 2021. He was 9 years old.
The documentary, 499 Days, was directed and produced by his uncle, Jamie Buckner. It features Kyler's journey through his battle and his bright spirit, as well as his family's fight all while going through a global pandemic.
Kyler's mom, Kristen McElroy, and his uncle visited WDRB Mornings on Monday. McElroy said she hopes it can help other people.
"I hope people don't feel so alone when they go through a journey like this," she said. "I'm hoping people will find this as a resource for their journey so they feel like they have a survival guide to get through it. I just want it to spread awareness, something I didn't know existed until we went through it ourselves."
