'Steamboat Nights' celebrates Jeffersonville's heritage

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Steamboat Nights is Jeffersonville, Indiana's Heritage Festival.

The Steamboat Days Festival began in 1973 as a fundraiser after a fire devastated the Howard Steamboat Museum.

The festival, generally held in September, was an annual event for 26 years, until it ended in 1999.

In 2014, it returned with a renewed focus on the arts and entertainment, now called Steamboat Nights.

The Big Four Station in Jeffersonville provides the backdrop for this 2-day event.

Steamboat Nights is a family focused festival that combines art, music, food and activities for all ages.

2018 Steamboat Nights will feature a juried artisan village, a live sand sculpting demonstration, a chalk walk for all, and an interactive, larger than life, illuminated Light Bright, and a community based Lantern Parade.

There will be musical acts both nights, a balloon glimmer, a magic & fire spectacular, a two mile illuminated family walk/run, glow in the dark face painting and more.
