LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Celebrate the importance of trees during TreeFest.
WDRB's Keith Kaiser spent the morning with tree lovers excited about the event.
TreesLouisville and Louisville Parks & Recreation hosts the 5th annual event.Ā This year, it happens on Saturday, April 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m at Thurman-Hutchins Park.
TreeFestĀ was introduced to Louisville in 2022 as a way to celebrate Arbor Day and provide community members with an opportunity to learn more about and appreciate the community forest.
This family-friendly event explores the essential role trees play in our daily lives.Ā Expect a full lineup of creative, engaging, and fun activities for all ages.
TreeFest will feature nearly 50 educational and environmentally focused vendors, live music from Hora Certa and outdoor activities including guided tree climbing, birding and nature hikes, rock wall climbing, and slacklining.
Hands-on experiences with ECHO (Engaging Children Outdoors) mobile activities and beer available from West Sixth and Trellis Brewing.
Volunteers will plant 100 trees throughout Thurman Hutchins Park as part of the event.
In partnership with Louisville Parks & Recreationās Division of Urban Forestry, there will be a free tree giveaway from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
500 three-gallon trees will be available to the public, species include Spicebush, Bur Oak, Blackgum, Chinkapin Oak, and Elderberry.
Louisville will be recognized as a Tree City USA community for the 25th year.
