LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Anchal (On-chal) helps marginalized women through fashion and good will.

WDRB's Keith Kaiser explores their new retail space before the grand opening and holiday show.

Anchal Project is a nonprofit that uses design and collaboration to provide economic opportunities for marginalized women.

The venture helps empower themselves through the creation of sustainable products and holistic programs.

It all started in a design studio with sisters Colleen and Maggie Clines.

Colleen Clines was taking a graduate seminar at the Rhode Island School of Design that took her on a trip to India in 2009.

Through local leadership, Colleen was introduced to the exploitive world of the commercial sex trade and the lack of opportunity for women in the community.

It was in this moment she was inspired to design more than beautiful landscapes and to collaborate with the non-governmental organization using design.

Anchal products are meticulously crafted and empower the artisans.

Each heirloom-crafted item carries the hand-stitched signature of the woman who created it, using certified organic cotton, vintage materials, and low-impact dyes.

These designs contribute to sustainable community growth and safety of the artisans.

Anchal products have been sold in Anthropologie, West Elm, Nordstrom, Madewell, and Bloomingdale’s and featured in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Better Homes & Gardens, Forbes, and Architectural Digest.

The new Anchal storefront, located at 1229 South Shelby Street, represents a milestone for this 13-year-old award-winning brand.

This space showcases the talent of artisan-made goods and features the dedication to ethical production, sustainability, and craftsmanship

Additionally, the building becomes Anchal’s new global headquarters for administration, design development, and e-commerce fulfillment.
