Recent rain has paid off and we saw a huge improvement in the drought monitor that was issued today. Louisville is no longer in the "abnormally dry" category! While we are still down -4.44" of rain since January 1st, the rainy pattern supplied the drink of water we desperately needed. The image below is what the map looked like last week and the new one isn't as colorful, which is great news for agriculture and economic reasons.

As you travel south locations like Bardstown, Radcliff, Lebanon Junction and Hardinsburg are on the cusp of drought. Most areas that were in severe drought downgraded to moderate drought. Going from east to west, there is a sharp gradient from severe to moderate drought. The extreme drought includes Mannsville, severe drought in Campbellsville, and moderate drought in Summersville. This week has been rain-free, but storms next week could deliver another soaking.
