LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Louisville Zoo is celebrating a rare and exciting addition to its animal family: three endangered Amur tiger cubs.

Zoo officials announced Wednesday that the cubs were born May 27 to parents Viktoria and Timmy. The birth marks the first time in 22 years the Louisville Zoo has welcomed three Amur tiger cubs.

The announcement came after the zoo teased a major reveal on social media Tuesday, sharing a video featuring tiny sounds from the new animal that left everyone wondering what it could be.

The cubs are currently spending time behind the scenes with their mother, where they are bonding and receiving care from the Zoo's animal team.

According to zoo officials, the cubs are healthy and continuing to grow, but visitors will have to wait a while before seeing them in person. Their public debut in the outdoor habitat is still months away.

The Louisville Zoo said the birth of the three cubs is an important conservation milestone and adds to the Zoo's legacy of caring for endangered species.

Zoo officials plan to share behind-the-scenes updates on the cubs' progress in the coming months.
