Rain and sleet showers have moved into most of our communities now, so may of you are asking when this will change over to snow.Ā
In an environment like this, sleet can be an indicator that snow is just a few hours away as the column of air begins to cool. We are watching that happen now, so within the next few hours, most of you will see the transition to snow. We expect that to happen around 6-7PM for most of Louisville. In southern Indiana it happens between now and then.Ā
That transition to snow will take longer in our southern communities in Kentucky who have been warmer today. Even in spots that see snow fall this evening, not everyone will watch snow accumulate.Ā
The snow should leave our area by roughly midnight, then the coldest air from this system flows in. Temperatures will be in the 20s by dawn with wind chill values in the teens and potentially even single digits.Ā
