LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Fall means festivals and spooky fun! We've put together our list of some of the area's haunted houses, pumpkin strolls and seasonal events.

Trick-or-Treats

Trick-or-Treat at the Ballpark

  • Friday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
  • Louisville Slugger Field
  • Tickets are $3. Kids 2-years-old and under are free.
  • Trick-or-treating and costume contest start at 6 p.m.
  • Halloweentown movie will begin at 7:30 p.m.

It’s a night full of Halloween fun with trick-or-treating along the concourse, a costume contest , pumpkin decorating, face painting, and plenty of fun photo ops throughout the park!

YouthLink's Trunk-or-Treat

  • Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Waterfront Park Silent Disco with Trunk-or-Treat 

  • Friday, Oct. 24
  • 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
  • Big Four Lawn
  • Free and family-friendly!

The Big Four Lawn becomes an outdoor dance floor with added multicolored lighting and visual effects projected onto the base of the Big Four Bridge. Participants are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costume and dance the night away underneath the glow of Louisville’s skyline. The event will include a Trunk-or-Treat experience hosted by Louisville Metro Police Department’s First Division featuring emergency responder vehicles; a children’s activities, face-painting, and hair tinsel; and food and drink options by Ten20 Craft Brewery and other local vendors. Info here

Spooktacular Bernheim Forest Halloween Trunk-or-Treat

  • Sunday, Oct. 26 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Shepherdsville Fire Department Trunk-or-Treat

  • Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Hillcrest on Halloween

  • Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Rain or shine!
  • This will be a ticketed event this year. Tickets are free.

The Hillcrest Avenue Halloween spectacle began as a competition between neighbors in the 1980s. Now, more than 50 homes participate with over-the-top Halloween-inspired decorations, and more than 75,000 typically visit the street over the course of October.

On Halloween, everyone must enter Hillcrest Avenue from either Brownsboro Road or Frankfort Avenue. The free ticket will be handed out at those two intersections.

Haunted Houses

Danger Run

  • Sept. 26 through Nov. 1.

Danger Run is a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt that will take you through the city using nothing but your brain and teamwork to solve clues and puzzles. The object of the game is to score the highest number of points. As you earn more points, rewards will reveal themselves along the way.  You may find free fangs, a coffee, or admission to fun-filled attractions.

Scareview Haunt

  • October openings: 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31
  • Non-scary hours - 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Full-scare experience - 6 p.m. to midnight

Scareview Haunt is a new nightmare that is coming to Hillview, inviting brave souls to step inside a world of screams, shadows, and surprises - all for a good cause! Proceeds from scareview Haunt will benefit Operation Santa, a local program dedicated to providing Christmas gifts and holiday support for families in need. 

Fear on Reed

  • Every Friday and Saturday from Sept. 19 through Nov. 1 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • 2601 Reed Street, Flatwoods, KY 41139
  • Tickets are $10 a piece
  • Parking available at Flatwoods Park

Unlike most haunted houses, Fear on Reed doesn't use animatronics. Every fright comes straight from their scare actors. All of the scenes are inspired by Appalachian folklore.

All-Season Attractions

Jack O'Lantern Spectacular

  • Oct. 2 through Nov. 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Iroquois Park
  • Tickets available for purchase here, or in person at the Iroquois Amphitheater. They range from $12-$16, and kids 3-years-old and under are free

Attendees will walk through the historic woods of the park, down a glowing path lined with the pumpkins made by local artists. The theme for this year's season is Jack's Pun-King Trail: A Trailway of Wordplay. New this year, the king of dad jokes will be crowned.

Boo at the Zoo

  • Kicks off Sept. 27 and runs Thursdays through Sundays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. until Oct. 30

The after-hours event transforms the Louisville Zoo into a living storybook, complete with music, characters, photo ops and safe trick-or-treating for kids. 

Trick-or-treating is for kids age 11 and under, but everyone is invited to dress up and join in on the fun.

On Wednesday, Oct. 22, the zoo will host an allergy-friendly Boo at the Zoo, and a sensory-friendly night Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Dead of Night (Candlelight Cemetery Tours) 

  • Wednesdays & Thursdays in October
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 
    • October 1st and 2nd – Pewee Valley Cemetery
    • October 8th and 9th – Brownsboro & Harrods Creek Cemetery
    • October 15th & 16 – Valley of Rest Cemetery
    • October 29th – Floydsburg Cemetery

Tours organized by the Oldham County History Center will meet at their designated cemetery at 6:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes, as the tours take place outdoors and involve uneven terrain. Advance registration is required, and space is limited. Tickets are $15.00 per person (+fees). Register here or call the History Center at 502-228-0826.

Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom

  • Now until Oct. 26 on Fridays-Sundays

Over 1,000 bright orange pumpkins and larger-than-life pumpkin structures are lighting up Kentucky Kingdom during their 4th annual Fall Festival. Guests can play all day on rides and discover fall-themed fun like grames, colorful characters, food, and street performances.

Hallouween Parade & Street Festival

Formerly known as the Louisville Halloween Parade & Festival in the Highlands

  • Oct. 25 beginning at 11 a.m.

The free event is moving to East Main Street in NuLu this year. The Parade has been taking place for 20 years and is one of the largest Halloween celebrations.

Historical Grave Tour at Cave Hill Cemetery

  • Sunday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • 701 Baxter Avenue, Louisville, KY 40204

Attendees will drive to gravesites connected to the Peterson Dumesnil House such as the Peterson family, architect Henry Whitestone, and Dumesnil & Rowan families, and make stops at other notable Louisvillians memorials like Muhammad Ali and Colonel Sanders.

Haunted Happy Tour

  • Sunday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m.
  • Peterson Dumesnil House - 301 S. Peterson Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206

Attendees will enjoy wine and snacks while hearing ghostly stories about the resident spirt, “the lady in white”, and others from around the area.

Haunted Rails - Lionel Operating Club

Now until Oct. 31 at the Mellwood Antique Mall

  • Sunday-Thursday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday & Saturday - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Model trains aren't just for Christmas! Celebrate the Halloween season with their model railroad display, decorated with several animated haunted structures, ghosts, and goblins, all under the glow of black light.

Admission is free.

Dia de Los Muertos Festival (Day of the Dead)

  • Saturday, Nov. 1  
  • 3 p.m. to 8 p.m

  • Face painting, Mariachi music, vendors, food trucks and more

Day of the Dead is a time-honored Mexican holiday that celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed away, blending remembrance with festive community traditions. The History Center’s event will feature beautiful altars (ofrendas), traditional music and dance, face painting, a parade, and vendors offering authentic foods and gift items. Info here
