The Kentucky Department of Education is asking students across Kentucky to showcase what makes their school special. The KDE created a new You Belong! Attendance Matters campaign to help combat chronic absenteeism. Public school students in kindergarten through 12 across Kentucky are asked to create a short commercial or digital poster, highlighting belonging, connection, and why showing up to school matters. The works of the winners will be published in future KDE statewide social media campaigns. Registration for the contest is open through Feb. 13, 2026. For contest information, click here.
Louisville Orchestra brings its In Harmony Tour to central Kentucky this February. Under the direction of Teddy Abrams, the program features Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, the driving Allegro from Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, and the electrifying finale of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. Louisville Orchestra Concertmaster Gabe Lefkowitz will be featured as soloist in Saint Saëns’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso.

"Winsday" at Churchill Downs nonprofit organizations submissions now open
Submissions are now open for local charitable organizations to participate in "Winsday" on Wednesday, April 29, part of Kentucky Derby Week at Churchill Downs. Up to 50 nonprofits can participate, having a unique chance to fundraise, unlock cash prizes and network.
For every box seat ticket sold through a unique ticket link, Churchill Downs will donate $5 to that organization. Individual box seat tickets start at $39 and can be purchases in six or eight seats.
Registration closes at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 21 with a live drawing on Friday, Jan. 23 to select the participating organizations. Ticket links unique to that nonprofit will be issued by Friday, Feb. 13.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Organizations that are IRS-approved 501(c)(3) public charities and serve or have headquarters in Jefferson, Shelby, Oldham, Spencer, or Bullitt counties in Kentucky or Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Indiana may participate.
- Schools and churches with valid IRS documentation or a federal EIN are eligible.
- Programs or projects with a fiscal sponsor must register under their 501(c)(3) sponsor, provide the EIN, and proof of sponsorship.
- 509(a)(3) supporting organizations must state their designation (Type I, II, or III) and may need to provide extra documentation.
- Private non-operating foundations are not eligible.
- Nonprofits that participated in 2025 are not eligible for 2026 but can reapply in 2027. View last year’s nonprofit participants.
Jeffersonville Animal Shelter is asking for donations and supplies. The shelter needs cat litter, wet and dry cat food, kitten wet and dry food, kitten formula, puppy food, leashes, medium, large and x-large collars and slip leads. Donations can be dropped off or shipped to the shelter at 201 Willinger Lane in Jeffersonville.
Anchorage Middletown Fire EMS is now hiring for lateral firefighters EMTs, firefighter medics, EMTs and paramedics. Pay ranges from $57,000 to just under $80,000, depending on experience and role. There is a new tool to help keep Kentuckians safe from scammers. The state's Administrative Office of the Courts launches a new scam alert website with common signs of a scam and resources to verify court information and report one.
