LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A brand new playground is bringing more opportunities to kids and families in Louisville.
Kids helped cut the ribbon Wednesday to officially open the new addition to Hounz Lane Park, across the road from EP Tom Sawyer State Park in east Louisville..
It has climbing elements, slides, swings, and play zones designed for a wide range of age groups. It also adds to the park's rock climbing boulder installed last year.
"Hounz Lane Park was already a great place to spend time outdoors with friends and family," Councilman Markus Winkler, D-17, said in a news release Wednesday. "My hope is these playground improvements and park updates attract even more people to what I believe is one of our city's best parks."
The new playground is surrounded by open lawns, creek access, tennis and pickleball courts, picnic shelters and walking paths.Â
"We can't wait to see this playground become a destination as the weather warms," Michelle King, executive director of Louisville Parks and Recreation, said. "It's full of laughter, adventure, and the kind of play that makes parks such an important part of our neighborhoods."
The Hounz Lane Park playground is now open to the public. The park, located at 2300 Hounz Lane, is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
