LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana woman is accused of stealing a police cruiser, striking an officer and leading authorities on a chase along Interstate 65 after an earlier assault, police said.

Jasmine Sheckles was initially arrested after Jeffersonville police said she punched a woman and stole her cellphone.

Investigators allege that after being taken into custody, Sheckles managed to take a marked police cruiser and drive off, hitting an officer before heading onto I-65.

The pursuit ended when the cruiser crashed, according to police. Authorities said Sheckles then attempted to steal another vehicle before officers were able to restrain her.

Sheckles was charged with attempted murder, escape and several additional offenses.

Police have not released details about the officer’s condition.
