LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A golf course that welcomed players for more than 50 years is about to become a neighborhood with hundreds of homes.
Penn Run Golf Course was sold to Elite Homes/Arbor Homes for $6.25 million, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
The golf course is along the Jefferson-Bullitt county line in Shepherdsville and will become Oakmont Meadows, a new community with 422 single-family homes.
The neighborhood will be built in phases, with three types of homes planned. Prices are expected to start in the low-$200,000s and reach the high-$300,000s before upgrades and other features.
Michael Metzkes, division president of Arbor Homes/Elite Homes in Louisville, told Business First the project is still in its early stages. The community won't have a clubhouse, swimming pool or recreation center. Instead, the company plans to make use of the property's natural features.
The project will stretch across both Jefferson and Bullitt counties. The Bullitt County portion is expected to become part of Hillview, according to Metzkes.
The golf course opened May 1, 1970. The Emberson family operated the course for decades before it closed this month.
