LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Snowy hills were littered with broken sleds and some busted moves on the slopes.
Hundreds took advantage of the freezing weather, fresh powdery-white snow and opening week of Paoli Peaks to ski and snowboard.
Sophia and Marshall Stephens grabbed their snow day by the ski poles and hustled out for the second time ever on the slopes.
"We fell a few times and ran into a few fences, but it was really fun," Sophia said.
"I gotta go any time I can," Jesse Druin said.
Druin has skied in other states, but Paoli is just 50 minutes from his house.
"I love this place," Druin said. "This is where I learned, so emotionally wise, I come here."
Earlier in the day, Druin was sledding in Louisville down the hill at Cherokee Park.
Even when the snow started to wear out on the hill, dozens of people of all ages were still plowing down it.
"It's cold but it's fun. We're having a great time," Tyler Njuguna said.
Tyler's brother, Caleb, offered some advice on how to go fast.
"Do not put your hands down because you will flip over," Caleb said.
A broken sled was not enough to deter Eric Woods, who we watched go down in style.
"As you can see, we're still making it work," Woods said.
