Senior with baby doll brought by Pearl's Memory Babies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Seniors challenged with Alzheimer's and other dementia-related issues were treated to special time with stuffed puppy dogs and baby dolls Friday morning.

It happened at the Sam Swope Care Center at Masonic Home Louisville on Frankfort Avenue.

The toys were brought by Pearl's Memory Babies, a Shepherdsville-based organization that started when Sandy Cambron and her husband brought a baby doll to his mother, Pearl.

"While she had Alzheimer's, it was her very best buddy. Went everywhere with her and it made her days happier," Cambron said.

The connection between the Alzheimer's patient and the doll was so heartwarming, the couple opted to launch an organization to bring dolls and stuffed puppies to other seniors struggling with dementia issues.

Shannon Blair joined the organization after her mother fell ill with dementia.

"We took a delivery over there on Valentines Day 2018. I posted pictures on Facebook and the next morning it had gone viral, and then Sandy said we are getting donations and we got to do something with it. So we decided to take 100 percent of our donations and put it back into deliveries," Blair said.

Cambron and Blair go where ever they are called to bring smiles to patients faces.

During trips, sometimes they discover the patients have not had visitors in years and other times they recognize a familiar face.

The women say each touching moment reminds them why they do what they do.
