Money Mondays | FAFSA College Financial Aid
- Updated
Free Application for Federal Student Aid also known as FAFSA. To understand what it is and how it works, Dustin Stanley, independent wealth management advisor of Strategic Wealth Designers joined WDRB in the Morning. He says it is the baseline of where you start to begin to get financial aid to the college that you plan to attend. Even if you have a scholarship for sports or for merit-based work you still must apply for admission.
“Even if you don’t think you’re going to need the money or your family can pay for the tuition, you still should go ahead and apply because there may be some aid there that will help towards that education,” Stanley says.
To make sure that you get the most from the application for aid, start early. Stanley says while it remains open well into the semester you may be on the outside looking in if the aid runs out. “Some of the funding gets filled, the earlier you file the more you have access to. If you wait too long you may not have funds available to you at all,” Stanley says.
