LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Get your eating (and drinking) pants on and your wurst goat-inspired outfits ready, a Louisville tradition is back this weekend.

The annual NuLu Bock Fest and Wurst Fest starts Saturday at noon and runs until 6 p.m. on East Market Street between Clay and Campbell streets.

You'll be able to check out live music, a kids' area, a wurst competition and the famous goat races.

Local breweries, retail vendors and food trucks will also be on-hand. Local breweries and chefs are partnering to make Kentucky Proud sausages for the wurst judging.

Organizers also encourage all goat-themed costumes and fashions for the festival, which is free. Coincidentally, NuLu is home to two alleys that are fitting for the festival — Nanny Goat Strut and Billy Goat Strut.

The tradition traces back to the mid-19th Century to mark the changing of the season when dark German lager, known as bock, was released after a winter of aging.

There are many varieties of bock — Maibock, Dopplebock, and Eisbock. Although it is now almost always a lager, bock was originally an ale that was brewed by German monks in the Fourteenth Century. The monks would often drink the rich beer during their times of fasting.

Goat races are traditionally associated with Bock Day, as "bock" means "goat" in German.

This is the seventh year for the event in Louisville. For more information about the festival, click here.

Several road closures will be in place all day. Market Street, between South Hancock and South Campbell, Clay Street between East Main and East Jefferson, and Shelby Street between East Main and East Jefferson, will all be closed from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.
