LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Junior Achievement is marking 75 years of teaching financial literacy to young people in Louisville.

WDRB News caught up with one of them during the Junior Achievement Awards Thursday evening, who shared a reminder about the importance of knowing early how money works.

"If you have no experience on that, then you're not going to know what to spend your money on and not going to know where and when to invest it," Brandeis Elementary student Jordan Lett Hasberry said.

Since 1949, Junior Achievement has impacted the lives of 1.5 million students.

Thursday, leaders from Louisville businesses, nonprofits and community organizations descended on the Marriott Downtown to mark the 75th anniversary.

Guests included entrepreneur Tawana Bain, ISCO Industries CEO Jimmy Kirchdorfer, and business woman Maggie Harlow, mother of local rapper Jack Harlow, all of whom were inducted into the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame.

"I encourage you to look for new ideas to promote, things you see that are exciting and new. I encourage you to look for the green shoots for the new businesses like mine was and stay open armed for them," said Harlow, who owns Signarama.

The awards program raised nearly $90,000 to continue the work of Junior Achievement. WDRB is a proud sponsor of Junior Achievement.
