LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man accused of multiple thefts across the Louisville area was arrested last week.

In a social media post, Louisville Metro Police said a detective investigating multiple theft cases saw 48-year-old Josh Vogel on Aug. 18 leaving a business he allegedly previously targeted.

Police said LMPD, along with the Jeffersontown Police Department, surrounded Vogel and took him into custody after a brief chase.

According to LMPD, detectives are exploring potential connections between Vogel and other property crimes in Louisville.

Court documents state Vogel was allegedly seen June 17 stealing a package from a front porch.

Video allegedly shows Vogel on June 6 using a tool to break out the windows of two vehicles and steal property from one of them, court documents say. Detectives gathered known photos of Vogel and compared them with the surveillance footage.

According to court documents, Vogel was seen July 31 stealing a woman's purse from the counter area at a Bubba's 33 location. He allegedly tried to use one of the credit or debit cards, but it was declined.

Vogel was charged with:

  • Two counts of criminal mischief
  • Two counts of obscuring the identity of a machine involving $10,000 or more
  • Theft by unlawful taking from a building
  • Theft-receipt of two or more stolen credit/debit cards
  • Theft of mail matter
  • Fleeing or evading police on foot
  • Receiving stolen property
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more
  • Theft by unlawful taking of parts from a vehicle
  • Fraudulent use of a credit/gift card
  • Theft by unlawful taking or disposition of a gift card
  • Theft by unlawful taking or disposition of contents from a vehicle

His bond was set at $50,000 and he was arraigned in court Aug. 19. Vogel's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 27.
