LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- As shoppers hunt for holiday deals, the Kentucky State Police is using the season to spotlight a program that brings comfort to children during some of their toughest moments.

KSP’s annual Trooper Teddy Black Friday sale runs Nov. 27 through Dec. 2, offering the agency’s well-known teddy bears for $20. The sale helps fund the Trooper Teddy Project — an effort that supplies stuffed bears to children who encounter trauma, whether through abuse cases, medical emergencies or other critical situations.

“This sale is more than a fundraiser, it is a chance for Kentuckians to be part of a moment of comfort for a child who truly needs it,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “Every bear purchased becomes a helping hand we can extend during a family’s most difficult day.”

The initiative has been part of KSP’s outreach for more than three decades. It began in 1989 with a statewide fundraising push that helped buy the first batch of bears. Since then, the program has continued solely through donations and seasonal sales, with every dollar going back toward purchasing more bears for troopers to distribute.

Kentuckians can buy Trooper Teddy Bears online or at any KSP Post. Orders can be picked up locally at no charge, or shipped for an additional fee. Supporters can also choose to make a tax-deductible donation to the project.

Details on purchasing and donating can be found on the official Trooper Teddy website.
