LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Free Public Library will once again partner with Scripps National Spelling Bee to host a regional competition.
This will be the second year for the "Fleur de Bee."
Eighteen finalists from local elementary and middle schools will compete Saturday, March 8.
The winner secures a spot at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May.
The spelling bee will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year as the nation's largest and longest-running educational program.
The winner of the first National Spelling Bee in 1925 was from Louisville.Â
"The Scripps Spelling Bee is a fantastic complement to the Library's ongoing work to develop kids' reading skills," LFPL Director Lee Burchfield said in a news release Tuesday.
Library officials said more information and updates about the spelling bee will be posted on their website, here, and social media over the next few weeks.
