LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local nonprofit is launching a new mentoring program for immigrant students at Jefferson County Public Schools.
See Forward Ministries is an organization that supports Louisville's large African immigrant and refugee community.
It's new Youth Mentoring program will offer one-on-one and group mentoring opportunities for eligible refugees and immigrant youth ages 15-24 years old.
The 24-week program focuses on college and career readiness, social-emotional skills, celebrating cultural heritage and identity.
Participants will be recruited through a partnership with Newcomer Academy, Seneca and Iroquois high schools.
The nonprofit said the program will focus on putting youth with mentors from similar cultural and/or language backgrounds to provide them with a positive role model who can relate to their experience.
