LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The application window to register for energy assistance in Jefferson County will open next week.
Pre-registration for Louisville's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) begins Monday, Oct. 2 and ends Oct. 31, or when appointments fill up. LIHEAP is available for those living in Jefferson County within 150% of the federal poverty line, seniors 60 years and older, disabled, people receiving Social Security or SSI and paying heating costs.
In addition, residents 65 years and older can apply for water bill assistance through Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District's (MSD) Senior Citizen Discount Program. If their gross annual income is less than $35,000, they may be eligible for a 30% discount on wastewater.
If you received assistance through the MSD Senior Citizen Discount Program, you do not have to reapply.
To apply for LIHEAP or MSD's Senior Citizen Discount Program, call the automated scheduler at 502-991-8391 or online by clicking here. Those who are homebound can call 502-780-7937 for assistance.
Documents required at the appointment include proof of income, proof of social security number or Green Card and current heating or water bill, whichever is applicable. For MSD's Senior Citizen Discount Program, an I.D. card is also required.
If you don't meet the guidelines for LIHEAP or MSD's Senior Citizen Discount Program, you may be eligible for another program can EWRAP, which gives a 30% discount on MSD wastewater charges to residents that are within 150% of the federal poverty line.
