LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The American Red Cross will hold its annual Holiday Hero Donorama Blood Drive next week.
This will be the 47th year for the drive. Organizers encourage donors to help share the warmth and roll up their sleeves to give the gift of a lifesaving blood donation.
"The need for blood doesn't stop for holidays," the Red Cross said in a news release on Tuesday. "Between Christmas and New Year's, more than 1 million blood transfusions will be given in the United States."
The blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Dec. 27, at the UAW Local 862 on Fern Valley Road in Louisville. The Red Cross said its goal is to have more than 300 donors over the course of both days.
Donors will receive a Broaster chicken dinner and a long-sleeved Red Cross t-shirt while supplies last. Donors will also be entered into a drawing to win an Apple Watch Series 10.
Donations of all blood types are needed. The Red Cross said donations typically decline during the holiday season, between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.
Those unable to attend the donation event can download the American Red Cross Blood Donor app, visit the Red Cross website by clicking here, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767) to schedule an appointment to donate.
Donors must have a blood donor card, driver's license or two other forms of ID when they check in.
