LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A renovated neighborhood place in Louisville's Park Duvalle neighborhood will reopen with improved accessibility.

When it's finished, the Ujima Neighborhood Place will serve as a resource amid rising costs of living. The center will also provide free assistance to help residents understand Medicaid following policy changes at both the state and federal levels. Because of those changes, city leaders said more than 50,000 adults and 10,000 children in Jefferson County have lost their health coverage.

The reopening comes after a $450,000 investment to make improvements such as a new reception area, updated technology, enhanced security features, interior finishes and ADA-accessible doors, "making the space more accessible for Louisville community members."

"Whether it's Medicaid enrollment, food assistance, childcare support or connecting to other services, help is right here in your neighborhood," Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said Tuesday.

Greenberg called the city's neighborhood places "a lifeline for Louisville families who need it most."
